Summer

Emirhan Inan, an undergraduate student in Electrical & Electronics Engineering and Computer Engineering at Istanbul Bilgi University, successfully completed his summer internship at the Computational Modeling and Simulation Lab, Istanbul Technical University, under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. M. Serdar Çelebi. His internship focused on the simulation of the electrophysiology of heart tissue, where he explored the fundamentals of cardiac action potentials, electrophysiological heterogeneity, and mechano-electrical feedback.

Emirhan worked with openCARP and Chaste, two leading open-source softwares for cardiac electrophysiological simulations, reproducing benchmark cases in cardiac electrophysiology. He also investigated coupled electro-mechanical modeling strategies that integrate electrophysiology with cardiac mechanics. His work highlighted both the methodological challenges such as computational cost, parameter tuning, and mesh resolution and the potential applications of patient-specific digital heart models for therapy planning, arrhythmia risk stratification, and drug testing.

We sincerely congratulate Emirhan for his dedication and achievements during this internship and wish him continued success in his future endeavors.
